MADISON (WKOW) -- Public school open enrollment begins Monday for the next 2012-2013 school year.
Open enrollment allows parents to apply to send their children to a school district other than their home district.
The open enrollment period is longer this year because of a new law. It used to run for three weeks in February. It now extends to April 30. Parents will be informed by June 8 whether their applications have been approved or denied.
The state Department of Public Instruction says parents are responsible for transporting their children to and from school.
