Sheriff helping in Chadima probe

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Dane County Sheriff's Office is helping in the probe of a man's allegation against former UW-Madison Athletics senior staff member John Chadima.

UW officials said the man's accusation of past, alleged wrongdoing by Chadima surfaced last week. A source with knowledge of the investigation told 27 News the allegation involves something sexual in nature.

Sheriff's spokesperson Elise Schaffer told 27 News a sheriff's detective is helping both a UW police investigation, and a parallel review being led by former Dane County Judge Patrick Fiedler at the request of UW chancellor David Ward.

Chadima resigned his $129,000 position in January after a student-employee alleged Chadima sexually assaulted him at a Rose Bowl-related party in Chadima's suite at a Los Angeles hotel. Officials said the student-employee, nor the second accuser, have been willing to go to authorities with their claims, but police continue investigation into the latter allegation without the accuser's involvement.

The source told 27 News the man lodging the latest allegation against Chadima is a former UW employee. The Wisconsin State Journal reported the man is also a former student, but was not enrolled when the incident allegedly happened. The source said the incident took place on campus or near it.

A previous review of Chadima's actions at the Rose Bowl party stated Chadima threatened firing another student-employee in text messages on the day of the party, unless the student-employee came to Chadima's hotel suite. Using the state's Open Records law, 27 News requested the text messages, but UW officials have yet to respond to the request.
