MADISON (WKOW) -
Some Wisconsinites may have to wait a few days longer than expected for their tax refunds, according to a spokesperson from the state Department of Revenue.
That spokesperson says some people were affected by a change in the software used at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance(VITA) sites across the state.
This year, for the first time, Wisconsinites who use these VITA sites can file solely for the Homestead Tax Credit, even if they do not have to pay income tax. The spokesperson tells us some of those tax credits did not go through the first time, due to the software change, but have since been re-entered. She estimates the delay at a few days, and says the software problem was fixed on Jan. 31.
The Department of Revenue also says only a few of Wisconsin's roughly 200 VITA sites were open before Jan. 31.
