Residents reacts to mortgage settlement

MADISON (WKOW) -- Stacey Ennis describes her life as 'empty'. Her things are boxed up and much of it is already sold as her home of 20 years teeters on foreclosure.

"I have been fighting for my house for three years," she said.

Her Sun Prairie home is set to be auctioned off in eleven days and news of a 25 billion dollar settlement with the nation's five major banks has brought little relief, even though some foreclosure victims could get up to $2,000.

"I am not foreclosed yet so I am falling in the cracks there," said Ennis. "I have no idea. I will know what it means when something is done . Talk is cheap. This is all talk right now. I want to see some action."

And government officials say it could be 7 to 10 months before homeowners are even notified about whether they are eligible to benefit from the settlement.  By then, Stacey says it will do her little good. Yet, she believes she is deserving of some justice.

"I applied for a loan modification. I did every thing they wanted me to. I sent in hundreds of papers,"she said.

"Do you think you've been a victim of mortgage abuses?" asked Reporter Sabrina Hall." Absolutely. Absolutely. Without a doubt."

Stacey says all she wants her bank to tell her  how she can keep her home.
