MADISON (WKOW) - -A Madison man is charged with five felonies and one misdemeanor in the city's first homicide of the year.

Edgar Ivan Salinas-Leal appeared in Dane County Court Monday afternoon.

Officials say Salinas-Leal shot and killed Darrell Ballweg on February 3. On Monday, authorities released a new criminal complaint with additional details about this incident.

The amended criminal complaint says that the incident started when the victim, Darrell Ballweg, would not allow Salinas-Leal's wife, Jessica, to have any lasagna.

It goes on to say Edgar Ivan Salinas-Leal came upstairs a short time later, angry and started to fight the victim. The complaint says the defendant hit Darrell Ballweg first.

Deborah Ballweg conveyed to police that after this initial altercation, Salinas-Leal went back downstairs before returning with a gun.

She then tells police she thinks "Darrell may have tried to grab the gun from the defendant" before it went off.

But Salinas-Leal's wife is saying he's not guilty.

"I was there. I saw everything that went on so they have no right to be telling him that he's guilty because he's not," Jessica Salinas told 27 News.

The 24-year-old already faced a first degree intentional homicide charge before Monday's court appearance. He's now charged with first degree reckless endangerment, felony intimidation of a victim, armed robbery, and take and drive a vehicle without the owner's consent. which are all felonies. Salinas-Leal is also charged with criminal damage to property, which is a class A misdemeanor.

His bail has been raised to $950,000 for the homicide charge.

Salinas-Leal's next court appearance is February 21.
