MADISON (WKOW) -- Gov. Scott Walker has announced a program to streamline the permit and site selection process to identify shovel-ready sites for new business facilities.
"Ready, Set, Build!" would be run by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. Walker says a third party consultant will also assist in the development and administration of the new program.
The program is designed to identify and approve 10 sites a year, so economic development projects can move forward faster.
But Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate says the program would bypass established permitting procedures and pose risks to the environment.
Walker says he hopes to have "Ready, Set, Build!" running by spring.
