CUBA CITY, Wis. (WKOW) -- There are plenty of great high school basketball coaches in the state of Wisconsin, but one of them stands above all the rest, at least in terms of victories.
Cuba City boys basketball coach Jerry Petitgoue is the winningest coach in Wisconsin basketball history, with 811 varsity wins.
Petitgoue is currently in his 40th season at Cuba City and his 44th overall as a high school head coach. He's coached the Cubans to three state titles and has a decent shot at his fourth this year. Cuba City is currently a perfect 18-0.
Petitgoue, who turns 72 this summer, has been asked frequently over the last few years when and if he might retire; here's what he told 27 Sports at his home in Cuba City Wednesday night:
"I've always been one that said that I've never lost a game; sometimes the clock runs out on you. I know that it has to end... I know that it has to end. Whether it's this year or next year, I know it has to end some time," said Petitgoue.
