MADISON (WKOW) -- Authorities say a Good Samaritan was just trying to do someone a favor when his cell phone was stolen.
A 60-year-old man was inside his vehicle at the North Transfer Point waiting to pick up his wife at the bus stop, when Laticia Thomas, 23, approached him asking to use his phone. She told the man she needed to call someone to get a ride.
Thomas then began walking away while talking on the man's phone, and when he tried to get it back, she said she would call police and tell them he was assaulting her. At that point, the man's wife arrived.
After an argument, Thomas threw the phone into the bushes, and when the wife went to get it, the woman grabbed her hair, threw her to the ground, and tried to take the woman's purse.
The suspect took the phone again and took off, calling 911 to say she had been attacked. Officers determined she was lying, after the victim's wife called 911 too.
Thomas was found a short time later and arrested. Police were not able to locate the phone.
