MADISON (WKOW) -- The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County is pitching in to help bridge the achievement gap in Madison schools.
At its "Hearts for Helping" fundraiser Friday night, the club announced it would donate more than $1 million to the effort.
The club's CEO says they have big things planned this year.
"We're going to be expanding our educational programs," said Michael Johnson. "We'll be moving to two middle schools and an additional high school. We'll go from serving 500 kids in our AVID/TOPS program to 800 kids."
The AVID/TOPS program helps prepare high school students for college.
Leaders with the Boys and Girls Club and the Madison School District will meet with administrators from the U.S. Department of education to discuss the district's achievement gap plan on Saturday.
