WAUNAKEE (WKOW) -- It was standing room only at the Waunakee High School fieldhouse Friday night, as Waunakee and DeForest, both 9-1 in conference play, battled for first place in the Badger North.

Waunakee, who lost to DeForest in January, jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back.

The Norskies, led by Brandon Staffeil's 20 points, battled back to within 7 in the final minute, but Joe Tagarelli was too much for DeForest. He had a game-high 27 points to lead Waunakee to a 72-62 win, ensuring Waunakee at least a share of its sixth straight Badger North title.
