
MADISON -- McFarland won its sixth consecutive Division 2 State Championship on Friday by running away from the rest of the field, scoring 325 points. Cedarburg was second with 249.5 points and Monona Grove third with 237 points.
McFarland established three Division 2 State Meet records as their 200 Medley Relay team set a new mark with a time of 1:33.81, breaking their own previous time of 1:36.22 in 2011.
Senior Ryan O'Donnell became the most decorated swimmer in State meet history with 14 titles during his career. He also set two meet records, the first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:48.14.
It was his third consecutive State Championship in this event. The other record came in the 200 backstroke with a time of 48.35, besting Neil Walker's (Verona) record of 49.61 set back in 1994.
In Div. 2 diving, Monona Grove's Patrick Sisson finished as the runner-up for the second straight year.
Freshman Joe Kaszuboski of Whitefish Bay took home the gold medal.
