MADISON (WKOW) -- The state Assembly will look at a bill that would help developers to win wetland construction permits on Tuesday.
The Republican measure would allow developers to
submit mitigation plans to state environmental officials with their permit applications. The outlines would detail how developers would offset damage they might cause by working to restore or enhance other wetlands. This would give builders another way to convince the Department of Natural Resources they deserve a permit.
The GOP says the bill would help businesses expand. Conservationists fear state environmental regulators will feel pressure to accept the
mitigation plans rather than insist developers avoid or minimize damage.
