MADISON (WKOW) – Madison police say a family of six was not seriously hurt after a drunken driver hit their car and left the scene of the crash Sunday night.
Police say the wife was behind the wheel, her husband was in the passenger seat and their four children were in the rear seats of their minivan around 6:50 p.m. Sunday. The family pulled out of a parking lot onto Post Road when a SUV came at them, head-on, driving the wrong way.
Police say 41-year-old Angelia Culberson was going west in the eastbound lane. The wife in the minivan tried to avoid the crash by swerving, but couldn't avoid the collision. The driver's side of the van was hit.
Police say Culberson did not stop, so the family called 911 and followed closely behind her. Officers found Culberson inside a Sandwood Way residence where she was uncooperative and threatened to kick officers as she was taken to the police station.
The family drove to a medical clinic to get checked out.
Culberson was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated second offense, Duty Upon Striking Vehicle, and Resisting/Obstructing.
