Doug La Follette to file papers for run for governor
MADISON (WKOW) -- Secretary of State Doug La Follette tells 27 News he will file paperwork Thursday to run for governor if an election is ordered against Gov. Scott Walker.
When that happens, La Follette will be the third Democrat to declare, joining former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk and state Senator Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma).
La Follette says he still hasn't decided whether he will actually get into the race. But he says he wants to create a campaign committee so he can gauge interest in him running and determine if he would be a strong candidate.
La Follette is the only Democrat currently in statewide office, which he says gives him name recognition and an advantage over others.
La Follette was first elected secretary of state in 1974.
