UPDATE: Body pulled from river in Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT (WKOW) -- Police have confirmed the body found in the Wisconsin River is that of 21-year-old Eric Duffey, a UW-Stevens Point student from Fitchburg.

Police say they don't think anything suspicious led to Duffey's death.

Instead they are saying alcohol could be a factor, though they are still waiting on toxicology results.

A dive team pulled Duffey's body from the river next to the Clark Street bridge after 1 p.m. Monday. Investigators say they focused their search here after a K9 unit led them to the Wisconsin River.

They also got a tip from someone who said he or she heard yells for help from the river early Saturday morning but didn't see anything when they looked.

Duffey was last seen in downtown Stevens Point around 1:15 a.m. Saturday.

He was a junior at UW-Stevens Point studying natural resources. He graduated from Verona Area High School in 2009.

MADISON (WKOW) -- 27 News spoke with some of Eric Duffey's family Sunday morning, just before they left to join the search in Stevens Point.

Duffey, a Fitchburg native and junior at UW-Stevens Point, was last seen Saturday morning at a Steven Point bar, where he had been celebrating his 21st birthday.

Duffey's extended family tells 27 News they know every minute counts right now, and at this point it's becoming hard to stay positive.

"It's cold out! If he fell down if he's fallen down somewhere and we can't find him we haven't heard from him we just need to find him," said Cheryl Duffey, Eric's aunt.

"He always texts us back or calls us back, he always lets us know where he is and it's just totally out of character," said Lizzie Duffey, Eric's cousin.

Eric Duffey's aunt Cheryl and cousin Lizzie say they knew something was wrong right away, when Eric's parents said they couldn't find him to go out to a birthday lunch Saturday.

"And then get a new computer and he was going to introduce his new girlfriend to his parents," said Cheryl Duffey, Eric's aunt.

Eric's aunt Sarah drove up from Chicago to help with the search.

"I'm afraid I don't know where he is, I texted him and I didn't hear from him," said Sara Duffey, Eric's aunt.

Duffey's family says he's a 2009 graduate of Verona Area High School.

He is currently a junior at UW-Stevens Point studying Natural Resources to some day, work for the Department of Natural Resources.
