Madison man almost hit on Beltline attempting to run from police
MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison man was almost hit by a car on the Beltline Thursday morning as he attempted to run from police.
The Dane County Sheriff's Department says a deputy tried to make a traffic stop for a speeding violation on the Beltline Thursday at 11:00 a.m. The driver, 29-year-old Michael Betts, refused to stop and instead drove into the parking garage of the Wal-Mart on Royal Avenue and ran away on foot.
Authorities began searching the area for Betts, when a passing motorists stopped to inform the deputies that they nearly hit a man who ran across the Beltline.
Deputies eventually located Betts near the intersection of Winnequah Road and Graham Drive in Monona.
Betts was arrested and booked into the Dane County Jail on a felony charge of eluding, along with several traffic citations.
