CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Bruce Weber says he is proud of what he accomplished at Illinois, but he knows coaching is a bottom-line business.
Athletic director Mike Thomas fired Weber on Friday after a 17-15 season that started 10-0. A few hours later, Weber met with reporters and said he has lived his dream of being a college basketball coach.
He did not take questions.
Weber finished with an overall record of 210-101 at Illinois, trailing only Lou Henson and Harry Combes in wins at the school. His teams were just 55-66 in the Big Ten over the last six seasons, including 6-12 this year. The Illini closed the year 2-12.
