UPDATE: STARKVILLE, MS (WKOW) – Mississippi State University officials said the fatal shooting of a student in a campus dorm appears to be isolated.

In a statement on the school's website on Sunday, University president Mark Keenum said there was no indication that there was a danger to others.

Keenum said the killing of 21-year-old John Sanderson of Madison, Miss., was the first time a student had been shot on the campus.

STARKVILLE, MS (WKOW) – Mississippi authorities continue searching for suspects involved in a shooting that killed a student at a Mississippi State University residence hall late Saturday night.

University spokeswoman Meridith Geuder said police received a call about the shooting at Evans Hall around 10 p.m. on Saturday.  The victim died after being taken to the hospital.

Authorities said three male suspects fled the building in a blue Crown Victoria.

Shortly after the shooting, the university sent a series of text messages to alert the students.

Geuder said a team of university officials and police were meeting early Sunday morning.  As of Sunday, no arrests have been made and the campus remains under emergency conditions.
