King of Prussia, Pa. (WKOW) -- A
company that makes lean, finely textured beef, or what's become more commonly
known as "pink slime," has filed for bankruptcy.
AFA Foods is selling some of its
assets because of a decrease in demand of its product. The company, based in King
of Prussia, Pennsylvania, says recent media coverage on "pink slime"
has created "changes in the market."
Beef Products, Inc., has also
experienced a significant decline in sales and closed three of its four plants
Meanwhile, the governor of Iowa says he wants congress to
investigate how what he calls "a smear campaign" against "pink
slime" got started.
