Report: Young people taking bus more, driving less
MADISON (WKOW) -- Young people between the ages of 16 and 34 are driving less and riding buses more, especially in the Madison area, according a report released Thursday from the WISPIRG Foundation and the Frontier Group.
The report says a record number of people -- about 15 million -- rode Madison Metro Transit last year.
Researchers say between 2001 and 2009, the annual number of miles traveled by train and bus by young people increased by 40 percent.
WISPIRG organizers say government leaders across the state and U.S. should consider the report's trends when deciding how to focus future investments in public transportation.
