MILWAUKEE (WKOW) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the National Weather Service put most of Wisconsin under a high risk warning for forest fires.
The National Weather Service said the "red flag warning" is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday. All burn permits are suspended in affected areas. Racine County has issued a no burn order through Monday.
The DNR said a red flag warning is issued when wind, temperature and humidity combine to produce an extreme fire risk.
Officials urge extreme caution in all outdoor activities.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, it's the first time in years that the warning has been issued for nearly all of the state.
