MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Metropolitan School District has extended the deadline for applications for its Spanish Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program for students entering five-year-old kindergarten in the 2012-13 school year.
The new deadline is Friday, April 13.
District officials say DLI programs offer academic instruction in both Spanish and English with a goal of full academic and cultural literacy in both languages for every student.
The Dual Language Immersion program is open to all MMSD students; however, it is only available at the six schools (listed below). Lottery applications for the program are available in both Spanish and English on the MMSD website. Applications received by Friday will be considered in the first lottery selection process.
Students living outside of the attendance area of these schools are welcome to apply. However, preference is given to students living within each attendance area and to siblings of students already enrolled in an MMSD DLI program.
The schools with the DLI programs are listed below.
Chavez Elementary, 442-2000, 3502 Maple Grove Drive
Glendale Elementary, 204-2400, 1201 Tompkins Drive
Leopold Elementary, 204-4240, 2602 Post Road
Midvale Elementary, 204-6700, 502 Caromar Drive
Nuestro Mundo Community School, 204-1079, 4201 Buckeye Road
