Reedsburg police criticized for Facebook posting

REEDSBURG (WKOW) – The Reedsburg police department has been criticized for posting mug shots of suspects on its Facebook page before they've been found guilty of an offense.

Reedsburg Police Chief Tim Becker says he's posting the mug shots on Facebook to keep people informed and to show that the department is being transparent.

Alderman Robert Parkhurst told WISC-TV that nobody should be condemned before they have their day in court. Parkhurst says he was on the Reedsburg Police Department's Facebook page after being cited for filing a false complaint of police misconduct. That case is still open.

Critics say some people have been posting offensive comments about the mug shots. Chief Becker says he appreciates being able to interact with members of the community and keep them informed through Facebook.
