MADISON (WKOW) – Republicans hope their supporters vote for the fake Democrats in May 8 recall elections.
If Republicans vote for the fake Democrats, it could result in GOP backers having an influence in whom Gov. Scott Walker faces in the June 5 election.
Wisconsin's open primary allows voters to cast ballots for either side, Republican or Democrat, no matter what their true feelings are. This leads to speculation that one side or the other will try to vote for the opposing candidate they view as the weakest.
Republican Senate Leader Scott Fitzgerald said he hopes Republicans cross over and vote for Democrat Kathleen Falk in the governor's race. State Rep. Robin Vos said he is also encouraging Republicans to do it.
Democratic Party spokesman Graeme Zielinski said he doesn't think it will have an effect.
