MADISON (WKOW) -- Police say a 15-year-old Madison Memorial High School student was arrested Monday morning for punching her teacher in the face.
Officials say the teacher, a 56-year-old woman, told police the student was being verbally abusive and disruptive, and after being told several times to be quite, a private security guard was called to escort the girl out of the classroom. Police say before the student left the room, she punched the teacher in the head.
According to police, the girl claims she got violent because the teacher called her a name. She also said that the teacher can't tell her what to do, and that she would hit the teacher again.
Police say the student was arrested for battery to a school district official and disorderly conduct. She was taken to the Juvenile Reception Center.
The teacher suffered pain, but was not seriously hurt. The teacher told police she is concerned about the student's threatening behavior.
