DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Dane County officials are reminding its citizens about potential telephone scams targeting the elderly.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office says a deputy responded to the home of an 87-year-old fraud victim in the town of Westport on Tuesday.
The woman told authorities a person called her claiming to be helping her grandson, who was in trouble and needed money. The caller then had the woman send $3,900 to an address overseas.
Officials ask that you talk to anyone who could potentially be a victim to this kind of fraud, and caution them to check with family or law enforcement before responding to such claims.
