PORTAGE (WKOW) -- Jill Schwantz is one of the three finalists in the Great Mother's Day Giveaway.
Being a parent is all about sacrifice. No one knows that better than Jill, who gave up her career to care for her sick son.
Roary was born six weeks premature and has been in and out of the hospital. Jill says the problem is mainly with his lungs. "They're just, if he gets a little sniffle or cold it'll turn into pneumonia," says Jill. Roary has had pneumonia about 15-20 times.
Now, Jill stays at home with her three children. Roary is four; Lilyian is eight; and Gemini is the oldest. Jill says, "She'll be 11... going on 18."
Jill does in-home daycare too, watching a few other little ones while her husband Robert works long hours. He's the one who nominated her. "She drops anything for the kids. She'd do anything for the kids," says Robert. He says Jill deserves this more than anyone he knows.
Jill says being a mom isn't always glamorous or easy, but she doesn't care about that. "Like Roary when he comes home and comes up and hugs me. He's like, 'Hi mom, my like you!' At the end of the day when I'm reading to the kids and they just lay there and look at me, smile and say, 'Goodnight, I love you.' At the end of the day that's all the matters."
