MADISON, Wis. -- The Badgers shut out Bradley, 2-0, in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night at Goodman Diamond behind the pitching of Meghan McIntosh. The junior left-hander only allowed five hits in her first shutout of the season.
Wisconsin (31-15) got on the board early in the game, tacking on one run in the bottom of the second inning against Madeline Lynch-Crumrine. Michelle Mueller hit a one-out single through the left side to get on base and Maggie Strange moved her over to second on a sacrifice bunt. With a high bouncer, Marissa Mersch reached first base and Mueller scored on an error by Bradley's first basemen to put Wisconsin up 1-0.
The Badgers struck again in the third inning, starting off with a double by Whitney Massey. Stephanie Peace hit an RBI double into right field to score Massey and give the Badgers a 2-0 lead over Bradley (19-28).
After three-straight scoreless innings from both teams, McIntosh took the mound to close out the game in the top of the seventh. Mariah Cole hit a two-out single to get on base, beating out a throw from Peace at shortstop. With the tying run at the plate, Julie Sherman grounded out to Peace to end the game.
The Badgers continue their home stand when they host Green Bay on Wednesday, May 2, in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. at Goodman Diamond. Both games will be aired live on the Big Ten Network.
