Consumer confidence relatively flat in April

MADISON (WKOW) -

The Discover U.S. Spending Monitor finds consumer confidence was flat in April, as more people saw their personal finances improving.

Almost 40% of those surveyed in April rated their personal finances as good or excellent. That's a 3-point increase from the month before. At the same time, gas prices that remain at higher levels than we saw in 2011 appear to be taking their toll on spending, as more than half of respondents said high gas prices are forcing them to change summer vacation plans, while 61 percent said gas prices may cause them to cut back on discretionary spending.

The Discover U.S. Spending Monitor is a nearly five-year-old daily poll tracking economic confidence and spending intentions of nearly 8,200 consumers.
