DANBURY, Conn. (WKOW) -- The author of "Where the Wild Things Are" has died. Maurice Sendak was 83 years old.
Longtime friend and caretaker Lynn Caponera was with Sendak when he died
early Tuesday morning. He died at a hospital in Danburgy, Connecticut.
Caponera says he had a stroke on Friday.
Sendak earned a Caldecott Medal for the best children's book of 1964. "Where the Wild Things Are" also became a hit movie in 2009.
Sendak also wrote "In the Night Kitchen."
