MADISON (WKOW) -
Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) is asking for help. DCHS has received several horses in two different surrender cases and currently owns 16 horses that have care, medical, and/or behavior needs.

Six of these horses are available for adoption now and some will be in the future. You can call (608) 838-0413, ext. 160 for information on adopting one of these horses.

This week, DCHS has received eight horses previously owned by Mary Loeffelholz. Public Health officials say the animals were not being properly cared for and convinced Loeffelholz to surrender the animals. DCHS also has eight horses a homeless man surrendered on April 29.

"The care and medical needs of these wonderful creatures stretch the shelter's limited resources," said Gayle Viney, DCHS Public Relations Coordinator.

DCHS says it will accept monetary donations, as well as supplies ranging from hay, to lead ropes, to brushes.

Also, if you or someone you know has a stable with room to provide foster care to one of these horses, you can call DCHS at (608) 838-0413, ext. 149.
