MADISON (WKOW) -- During National Boat Safety week, local officials are warning of the dangerous situations that can happen on the water.
Police were out on boat landings Saturday, stressing safety. They say 23 people died in boating accidents last year.
Richard Bidinger of the U.S. Coast Guard said many of those fatal incidents involved boats with no life jackets on board.
Police say boaters could be fined more than $160 for not having a life jacket for every passenger on the boat.
