Madison truck hits sunbather

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- A City of Madison truck hit a sunbather in James Madison Park just after noon on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital, but Madison police say her injuries are not life-threatening.

Police say the truck was driving on a grassy area of the park. The Madison Parks Department says one of its employees was behind the wheel, delivering mulch for a maintenance project.

Mayor Paul Soglin and Parks Superintendent Kevin Briski released the following joint statement: "Our hearts go out to the young woman who was injured this afternoon at James Madison Park as well as to the Parks employee driving the truck."

Madison Parks says its staff is cooperating with the police investigation and will review its safety protocols.

James Madison Park is located at 314 E. Gorham Street in Madison.
