Bayfield County joins program to track lost wanderers

Posted:

WASHBURN (WKOW) -- Bayfield County joins an international project that uses bracelet transmitters to help locate people lost due to mental issues.

The project is called Project Lifesaver. It focuses on wanderers suffering from dementia, autism and other cognitive conditions.

Currently, the county gathered equipment for five people to wear a bracelet transmitter.

A Wisconsin Public Radio report says one elderly person is wearing a bracelet.

A cognitively disabled person will have difficulties surviving alone outdoors for a long period of time.
