MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police say an elderly driver's car ran into a family having a picnic Tuesday night on Madison's west side.

Police say the elderly driver went off the road and hit a small tree before the vehicle went airborne and landed on the picnic table.

Officials say five people were hurt, and at least one was critically hurt. Four patients were taken to UW Hospital, while one was taken to Meriter Hospital.

Madison police are not releasing any other information at this time.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Emergency crews responded to a single vehicle crash Tuesday night after the car went off the road and into a group of picnickers.

It happened just before 6:00 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Rosa and Mineral Point, close to Research Park on Madison's west side.

Dane County Communications says one car drove into five picnickers. All five of them were taken to local hospitals. Authorities have not released the extent of their injuries.

Officials did not have any information about the driver or his condition.
