
JANESVILLE (WKOW) – Janesville Police responded to a McDonald's restaurant late Friday night after a man broke a window.
Authorities said around 11:54 p.m. at the McDonald's restaurant on the 1600 block of Milton Avenue, James Warfield threw a boulder through a window of the open business.
Upon arrival, Officer Craig Klementz started talking to Warfield, but Warfield punched Officer Klementz in the face and knocked him down.
Two other officers on scene attempted to take Warfield into custody but he continued to fight and resist. Authorities said their four attempts with a taser were unsuccessful, along with pepper spray and strikes from a baton.
Authorities attempted to utilize Hardy the police K9 dog, but Warfield attacked the dog by punching and kicking his head, incapacitating him. Warfield continued to resist and get away. He attacked Sgt. Todd Kleisner by narrowly striking him in the face.
Police said one final taser deployment finally incapacitated Warfield and he was taken into custody.
Officials said Officer Klementz was treated and released from Mercy Hospital after he received 11 stitches to his lip. Two other officers received minor injuries during the incident. Warfield was taken to Mercy Hospital where he is being treated for a pre-existing medical condition.
Authorities said Warfield will be taken to the Rock County Jail when he is released from the hospital.
Warfield is tentatively charged with battery to law enforcement officer, attempted battery to law enforcement officer, resisting an officer, harassment of a police or fire animal and vandalism.
