UPDATE: Poynette falls short of 2nd straight state title, loses 8-3

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Poynette softball team fell short of its second straight Division 3 softball title with its 8-3 loss to Pacelli. The Pumas had a 3-1 lead in the 3rd inning, but the Cardinals scored 2 runs in the 4th, 2 in the 5th and 3 in the sixth to win the gold ball. Poynette beat Algoma 6-4 on Friday to earn a trip to the title game.

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Poynette softball team earned its second straight trip to the Division 3 state championship game with its 6-4 win over Algoma on Friday night. The game was tied, but the Pumas scored 3 runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Poynette will face Pacelli in the D3 title game, a rematch of last year's championship game that the Pumas won 4-0. First pitch from Goodman Diamond is scheduled for 12:30 pm.
