PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (WKOW) -

The World War II veterans from Wisconsin, who took an Honor Flight to Hawaii, spent their first full day on the island on Saturday.

Among the highlights was a visit to the USS Arizona Memorial to pay tribute to the Wisconsin soldiers and airmen who died on December 7th, 1941, during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The group also honored Mark Schidel, their fellow Wisconsin veteran who died during the flight to Hawaii.

A navy chaplain read a prayer in his honor.

The Arizona, a battleship, was sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor. More than 1,000 U.S. sailors were killed.

The memorial, accessible only by boat, floats above the sunken hull of the ship.
