Former UW-Madison student sentenced for distributing child porn

MADISON (WKOW) -- A former UW-Madison student will spend the next 12 years in prison for distributing child pornography.

U.S. District Judge William Conley handed down the sentence to Matt Hendrickson, 23, of St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Hendrickson pleaded guilty to the charge in November of 2011.

Authorities searched Hendrickson's dorm room at the UW in September of 2010. Officers found a laptop computer with more than 19,000 files containing child porn that Hendrickson was distributing.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Conley also noted Hendrickson lied to his therapists, mental health counselors, his parents and his criminal defense attorney all in an effort to stay out of jail.
