New consumer complaint database

Posted:

IOWA CITY, IA (WKOW) -- You now have a new tool to check up on complaints against credit card companies.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau launched the Consumer Complaint Database on its website. It will allow you to see how a bank or card issuer handled complaints.

The bureau says no complaint will be posted online until the alleged offender confirms it did business with the consumer. Banks and financial institutions will have 15 days to respond to a complaint and 60 days to act on it.

If you submit a complaint, none of your personal information will show up.

The site will eventually include grievances about mortgages and student loans
