WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton marked the 40th anniversary of Title IX by meeting
with ESPN President John Skipper.
The amendment made it illegal for federally funded schools to
discriminate against women. It also
leveled the playing field for female athletes.
"The title IX decision was revolutionary, and I think all of us who care about
opportunities for girls and women view it as one of the most consequential
pieces of legislation for women in our country's history,"
The secretary of state also announced a new initiative to empower female athletes worldwide. Twelve girls and four female coaches from the Caribbean will participate in a track and field exchange in the U.S.
