MADISON – The fifth annual GO! Green & Gold Training Camp with Green Bay world champion wide receiver Donald Driver will be held on July 14th from 10:00 am to Noon at the Henry Vilas Zoo. The event, which focuses on tackling obesity and making fitness fun for children and families, will be co-hosted by Physicians Plus and Meriter.
The training camp is open to children ages 5-12 and is part of Physicians Plus' "GO! Get out!" campaign, which encourages families to lead more healthy and active lives. Driver will put the children through mini "training camp" activities that could include jumping jacks, high knee lifts, sprints and more. YMCA of Dane County staff will have activities for kids under 5.
"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), childhood obesity has more than tripled in the last 30 years," said Scott Shoemaker, manager of marketing for Physicians Plus. "This training camp is a way for kids to learn that being active can also be fun. Our goal is for them to take the active attitude they learn at the camp and incorporate it into their lives all year long."
Participants at the Green & Gold Training Camp will have a chance to win one of ten footballs autographed by Driver. Participants are asked to visit www.pplusic.com to print and complete the registration form and bring it to the event. Registration is on-site and closes at 11:30 a.m. with forms available for those who have not printed one in advance.
The GO! Get out Campaign was started by Physicians Plus in 2005 as a way to encourage families and children to lead more healthy and active lives. The campaign provides families with fun, health-focused events and gives incentives to combat against the increasing rate of childhood obesity.
