MADISON (WKOW) -- Rhythm & Booms organizers are expecting more than 200,000 people to attend the fireworks display this year at Warner Park and that means there's going to be some traffic.
In order to minimize congestion, this traffic exit plan may help spectators move in and out of the area more smoothly. The following are guidelines to safely get pedestrians and motorists away from the park after the event:
- Crossing of and left turns onto Northport Drive will be permitted from northbound School Road. This will serve drivers who have parked west of Warner Park, and south of Northport, and reduce traffic loading on Westport Drive.
- At the Highway 113 (Northport Drive)/Highway M intersection, travelers to Waunakee should use the right lane and travelers to Middleton should use the left lane.
- ALL westbound Johnson Street/southbound Packers Avenue traffic will be allowed to proceed westbound to Gorham Street, but are encouraged to turn left on 1st Street and use East Washington Avenue to Blair Street to John Nolen Drive.
- Southbound Packers Avenue traffic is encouraged to turn left onto International Lane, right on Anderson, and right onto Fair Oaks.
- County Trunk Highway CV between Wheeler Road and US Highway 51 will be open only for one-way traffic, toward Highway 51. Parking on the shoulders of Highways CV and 51 and Hanson Road will be prohibited all day Saturday.
Traffic officials also encourage people to park according to their exit direction, have patience, ad take advantage of the shuttle buses and extra Madison Metro buses that will be running. There are also a few private parking lots available in the area.
