MADISON (WKOW) -- The Community Clothes Closet in Mount Horeb has reached a milestone. They've been providing basic needs to those in need for fifteen years now. The non-profit's success is fueled by one woman's desire to give back. Elishah Oesch introduces you to this month's Jefferson Award Winner, Rayne Arneson.
The Community Clothes Closet in Mount Horeb is stocked from floor to ceiling with shirts, shoes, dresses and more. It's a place where you can find pretty much anything you need, clothing wise, and it's all because of Rayne Arneson. She saw a need and decided to fill it starting fifteen years ago.
Rayne says, "I was working in the schools and volunteering and saw kids that didn't have any coats or appropriate coats." So, Rayne decided to get them some. She went to fourteen churches and asked them for their support. She didn't have to try too hard. She says, "everybody was in from the very beginning." From that day to this, churches, businesses, and volunteers have helped stock the non profit organization. Now, they not only provide free clothes to people in need, but also free blankets, maternity material and more.
Rayne says, "I think my favorite thing of all is the school supplies." In addition, to clothes the CCC provides an entire room for students. They have everything from glue to pens and paper to backpacks in the room. Also, every August they hand out 200 bags full of supplies for school kids. Rayne loves the day they hand out supplies saying, "that first opening day, it's that excitement!"
That excitement is fueled by Rayne's belief that each of us can make a difference. Rayne's sister Shelly Lee says, "over the years, Rayne has always been the one that stepped up and made sure everybody's needs were fulfilled." Shelly says, Rayne's efforts have really made a difference and moreover, they've inspired other to give back, including herself. She says, "you feel good about fulfilling that need." Whether you know it or not, the need remains great. Rayne says, "we may have twenty people walk through the door, but they're shopping for an average eighty to one hundred people." But, Rayne is committed to clothing and helping every one of those people. No matter what it takes, she's in it for the long haul. She says, "I'll always be involved."
