FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- Authorities have identified the man arrested for a child's death in Fitchburg.

The Fitchburg Police Department says 30-year-old Jesus Castillo-Dimas is in custody on tentative charges of first degree intentional homicide and attempted first degree homicide.

Monday afternoon, Fitchburg police responded to calls that a child was hurt in the parking lot of an apartment building on Red Arrow Trail.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two adults were taken to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Dozens of neighbors gathered at the scene Monday night at dusk, to mourn the loss of the young child and show their support for the family. A group from a church down the road organized the candlelight vigil.

Fitchburg Mayor Shawn Pfaff was there too, glad to see the community come together.

"I'm proud of the community as you can see tonight with them coming out, coming together, but also I'm proud of the police who took their job very seriously," says Pfaff.

Neighbors say they want the family involved in the domestic disturbance to know that they are there for them.

"My heart goes out to the family that has suffered this tragic loss. I know if it was me, it would make me feel a little warmer in my heart to see a community come together in the loss of a loved one like that," says David Thrun, who lives just down the street.

FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- Neighbors will gather at the site of a child's death in Fitchburg to show their condolences for the family.

Monday afternoon, Fitchburg police responded to calls that a child was hurt in the parking lot of an apartment building on Red Arrow Trail.

Lt. Chad Brecklin says when officers arrived, they realized right away that it was a domestic situation. They found three adults who were hurt and a young child who appeared to be dead. A short time later, the Dane County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the child's death.

Brecklin says two adults were taken to an area hospital and one was taken into custody. Police are investigating the relationships between the people involved in the incident, but say they knew each other.

"At least two of the three adults we found are at least known to one another, they were in a relationship together at some point in time," says Brecklin.

Authorities towed two vehicles from the apartment building's parking lot. An SUV that was towed away appeared to have been in a crash and the airbags had deployed.

At dusk, the community will gather in the parking lot to remember the child and show their support for the family.
