MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Mike Fiers did everything he could to get the Brewers a win. A seven-inning scoreless performance and the Brewers took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 9th. But closer John Axford suffered his 6th blown save of the season and the Brewers fell to the Cardinals 3-2.
Allen Craig hit a bloop RBI single off Axford to take the lead. Axford struggled with his control right away, eventually loading the bases with two outs and giving up a game-tying, two-run single to Matt Holliday.
Axford (2-6) then was lifted after giving up the single to Craig, which dropped softly into shallow left field. Axford left the game to a steady stream of boos from the crowd. He called it his worst outing of the year.
