Waunakee's Ford to play for U-17 USA hockey team

Posted:

WAUNAKEE (WKOW) -- Former Waunakee High School hockey player Keegan Ford is one of 20 players who made the U-17 USA Hockey team. Around 150 hockey hopefuls tried out for the team in a Developmental Camp earlier this month. Ford and the team will travel to the Czech Republic in early August to play in a 5-day round-robin tournament from August 7-11. The US will compete against the host Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland and Slovakia.

"It's gonna be an unbelievable feeling just putting on the USA jersey. Representing your country going out against, playing against some of the top kids from other countries, and just proving yourself against them that's gonna be awesome," Ford said.

Ford just completed his sophomore season at Waunakee, but he will not return to the Warriors next year. Ford will play for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL, while attending Dubuque Senior High School in Iowa.
