Severe storms knock power out to thousands

MADISON (WKOW) -- Thousands of people are without power Tuesday morning.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Dane, Green, Iowa, Lafayette and Rock Counties. Strong winds and rain left many without power.

At one point, Alliant Energy reported more than 12,000 customers without power, mostly in southern Wisconsin. Madison Gas and Electric reported just under 100 without power. 

Authorities from Green, Iowa, and Rock Counties also report some storm damage and downed trees. They are currently assessing the situation.
