Loved ones mourn UW-Whitewater graduate killed in Colorado shooting

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (WKOW) -- Mourners gathered Friday to remember U.S. Navy Sailor John Larimer who was killed in last week's Colorado mass shooting. Larimer was also a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater graduate.

Larimer's funeral was held at a suburban Chicago funeral home. Larimer was from Crystal Lake, Illinois. Family and friends consoled each other while bidding the 27-year-old farewell.

He was based at Colorado's Buckley Air Force Base while working as a cryptological technician for the Navy. He was among the 12 people killed during the theater shooting.

Larimer's girlfriend, July Vojtsek of Algonquin has said he pushed her to the ground to protect her from the flying bullets.
