MADISON (WKOW) -- Montee Ball is disputing a story on a celebrity and entertainment website that says he was involved in a fight last week -- prior to the incident where he was attacked in downtown Madison early Wednesday morning.
On Thursday, TMZ reported that the UW running back and several UW football teammates may have been involved in a fight several days ago before he was attacked Wednesday morning on University Avenue. TMZ says according to law enforcement sources, police have received tips about a brawl at Ball's home that occurred about a week ago.
TMZ reports their sources say Ball and his teammates "may have participated in beating up a non-football player."
Ball tweeted (@M_Ball28) Thursday afternoon that "the report that I was involved in a fight is totally false."
According to Madison.com, police officials now believe a "precipitating event" led to the attack on Ball.
But, the website reported Madison Police Captain Carl Gloede offered no specifics, other than to distance the department's investigative direction from the TMZ story.
Cpt. Gloede says, "What they're describing is not what we're looking at."
